Years of history

The Sim Clan Ancestral Hall in North Malaya has a history of more than 80 years since its establishment in the 1930s. The ancestors of the Sim Clan worked hard and crossed the seas to settle in Penang, enduring hardships and striving diligently. Due to the dispersal of the Sim Clan members across different locations, the establishment of an ancestral hall was necessary to connect and unite the clan, as well as to take care of their rights and welfare.

In the early 1950s, the ancestral hall was established in Butterworth, as the majority of clan members resided there. Additionally, there were Sim Clan members living in other areas of Northern Malaysia, such as Bagan Ajam, Tasek Gelugor, and Bukit Mertajam, but they were mostly organized in scattered groups.

The initial ancestral hall was very simple and primarily served as a place for clan members to conduct ancestral worship, commemorate their ancestors, and uphold the spirit of filial piety. In order to integrate and promote unity among the clan, efforts were made by prominent Sim Clan members, such as Cheng Chi, Khaw Yuan, Choo Chu, Soo Yung, Ko Piau, Yap Giap, Chioh Seng, Eng Seng, Chioh Guat, Kwai Teik, Kheng Seng, Chuah Seng, Meng Teik, Chioh Ching, Wen Cheong, Sai Leong, Sai Ming, and Bak Teik, to acquire the premises at Sam Sing Lane. In 1963, the ancestral hall was relocated from Butterworth to Sam Sing Lane.

Every year on the 25th day of the seventh lunar month, the Sim Clan Ancestral Hall organizes the Wu De Hau Chuang birthday celebration, providing an opportunity for clan members to participate and promote social interactions.
